Ascension of Our Lord is committed to building a strong spiritual, academic, and moral foundation that empowers our students to strive for success and model their faith in order to serve God and others.
The curriculum at Ascension of Our Lord School meets the needs and talents of students beginning with our Little Crusader two year old program through 7th grade. Our school strives for high academic achievement while recognizing the uniqueness of every child. Included in the curriculum are Religion, Math, Reading, English, Social Studies, Science, Spelling, Art, Computer, Library, Spanish and PE. Students are also able to participate in many extra-curricular activities that includes year-round sports and clubs.
Ascension of Our Lord School is staffed by certified personnel. It is accredited by the State of Louisiana, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). AOL maintains membership in the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA), Louisiana Federation of Citizens for Educational Freedom (CEF), and Association for Curriculum Development (ASCD)
• Little Crusaders
The Little Crusaders is a year round program that includes various activities to help students with their social, physical, and academic growth. Free play learning centers, music and movement, arts and crafts, story time, outside play, hands on activities, and verbal interaction are targeted to engage your child in a warm and nurturing learning environment.
The Parent Teacher Organization facilitates coordination and communication between parents and teachers to develop students intellectually, spiritually, culturally, socially and physically.
Students in both school and PREP programs starting in the 4th grade and up assist the priest, serving God on the Altar during Holy Mass.
AOL Altar Society
The AOL Ladies Altar Society members take care of the material needs of the church sanctuary and vestments. They arrange flowers and other decorations for the church and assist with coordinating various Parish spiritual and social events. Their major fundraiser involves baking and selling cookies for the St. Joseph's annual cookie sale.
The Bereavement Ministers coordinate efforts to care for those family members who are grieving following the loss of a loved one. This ministry is about “being there” for others.
Bible Studies/Prayer Groups
This group consists of several small faith communities within the larger Parish. Groups meet at different times of the day, evening and weekends. They share through the Scriptures, the rosary and reflection on how the Scriptures relates to life and faith experiences.
We offer various acts of charity including Hearty Meal, Thanksgiving Baskets, Giving Tree gifts, St. Joseph's Altar and the Ministry of Care.
Choirs and musicians at each Mass share in praising God through song and music. Most groups practice once a week.
Young people preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation must complete a 3-year program starting in the 9th grade. The bishop confers the sacrament in the Fall.
Culture for Life
We uphold the sanctity of all life from conception to natural death. This ministry helps bring public awareness to the evils of abortion and euthanasia through peaceful walks, rosaries, and other activities.
Young teens are brought together in Christ through service, social and spiritual activities. Parish youth who are 12 and over and in 7th grade can join our faith-based program. In the near future a monthly Youth Mass will be held at the 7:00 PM Sunday Mass.
The Discipleship Committee assists in the leadership formation, needs assessment and planning of our parish.
Dynamic Catholic Prayer Group
This group meets weekly to pray the Rosary for several intentions, including those of the parish’s religious and lay leaders and for the intentions inscribed in the Chapel Basket and Parish Prayer Request Book. The group also develops ideas and activities to foster development of the Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic (Prayer, Study, Generosity, and Evangelization) in all parishioners. All are invited to join us on each Tuesday at 6:00 PM in Church.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Men and women who assist the priest in distribution of the Eucharist at Sunday Masses, Holy Days, and other special liturgical functions.
Members of this council oversee the Parish finances, approve quarterly/annual reports and the yearly budget.
Girls participate in activities encouraging responsibility, leadership and team-building. They discover fun, friendship and the power of girls together. Troops of various ages and grade levels are available.
Our volunteers serve the needy, sick and homebound of the Civil parish. They prepare meals and deliver them to the needy every Thursday evening.
We offer support to the Spanish speaking community in our area with liturgy and sacramental preparation.

Dedicated to the principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism, the Knights of Columbus promotes family life and the development of youth while serving God by tending to the needs of the Church, the Parish, and the Community.
Marriage Enrichment / Marriage Encounter
This ministry provides opportunities for married couples to grow in their relationship through various quarterly activities. Designed to strengthen the Sacrament of Matrimony, couples spend a weekend focusing on just each other.
For engaged couples, three options are offered for marriage preparation: Engaged Encounter, Day for the Engaged, and Evenings for the Engaged.
Ministry of the Sick
The ministry serves the sick and the physically unable by visiting them regularly, sharing prayers and the Eucharist. Seventh graders of AOL School accompany these Ministers on Friday mornings.
Ministers of the Word
Catholic adults who proclaim God’s Word at Sunday Masses, Holy Days, and other special liturgical functions.
Natural Family Planning (www)
A highly effective method of fertility awareness that enables a couple to either achieve or avoid pregnancy by observing and interpreting natural physiological changes in a woman's body. This method stresses communication and mutual respect within a marriage and is in accordance with the Church teachings.
PSR - Parish School of Religon
Ascension of Our Lord’s School of Religion offers religious instruction for children in grades 1-12, not enrolled in a Catholic school. Classes are held on Monday evenings from 6:00-7:30 PM. All classes are held in the Ascension of Our Lord School building.
The Pastoral Council leaders meet once a month to formulate and execute policies of the entire Parish. The Pastoral Council fosters, inspires and demonstrates leadership and enthusiasm in and for all matters relating to the spiritual and temporal affairs of AOL Catholic Church Parish. The Council serves as the medium whereby any and all members of the parish may make recommendations to the pastor. The Council represents 6 Pastoral appointed and 6 elected representatives which come together for the good of the parish.
Perpetual Adoration Chapel
Our Perpetual Adoration Chapel provides a quiet, peaceful, spiritual retreat from daily life to all who wish to worship and adore our One True God. Open 24/7 except on Good Friday we continually need dedicated adorers.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)
Catholic adults not confirmed, non-Catholic and non-baptized adults seeking to join the Catholic Church learn about the Faith in a process that leads to full initiation into the Faith community. We meet on Wednesday evenings.
AOL provides recreation throughout the year for the youth of the community. Summer recreation includes t-ball, softball and baseball for children ages 4 through 15. Children under ages 6 through under 14 can participate in our Fall Soccer League.
Men and Women 50 years and older meet on the 3rd Wednesday each month at 1:00 PM to socialize and plan activities. Membership is always open.
St. Charles Catholic High School (www)
SCC is a Roman Catholic, archdiocesan, co-educational high school grades 8-12. SCC strives to meet the intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical, and social needs of our young students through a balanced curriculum. SCC prides itself on its religious, social and athletic extracurricular activities.

Vacation Bible School
Takes place in July and includes a week of Bible stories, games, and songs for ages K through 6th grade.
